Native to the forests of East Asia, Shiitake grows naturally on decaying hardwood and has been part of culinary and medicinal traditions for thousands of years.
In traditional Chinese and Japanese herbalism, Shiitake has long been used to support general vitality, overall wellbeing, and longevity. Records of its use date back more than 2,000 years, where it was considered both a nourishing food and a restorative tonic. Over time, Shiitake cultivation became a respected craft, and the mushroom was prized enough to be given as gifts to emperors.
